Frequently Asked Questions
    Going Solar

As a mid-size distributing brewery, we consume a large amount of power for HVAC, walk-in coolers, glycol chillers, air compressors, etc. So in 2018, we installed a 75 kilowatt solar array on our roof! Our goal was to cut our power bill by 40%. So far, we’ve been successful. On top of that we’ve reduced carbon emissions substantially. It’s the equivalent of planting over 7,000 trees, project to date.

    Birdsong’s Green Initiatives:

        • We partner with local farmers who use our spent grain and peanut shells to supplement feed for livestock.
        • Our in-house baler compacts our cardboard and soft plastics so we can recycle them more efficiently.
        • We use LED lighting throughout the facility
        • Motion-sensor lights in offices and restrooms
        • Waterless urinals in men’s restrooms
        • We track water consumption and set goals to maintain our record as the most efficient when it comes to water usage for a brewery our size.
        • Use local ingredients when possible
        • Nitrogen generator on site reduces our CO2 consumption.
        • Creek clean up - our adopted portion of the Little Sugar creek runs by the brewery. We conduct biannual clean-ups and so far, have collected thousands of tons of trash.
        • Bicycle Benefits - we are a Bicycle Benefits participating business, so we reward guests who choose to ride a bicycle to the brewery!
        • Adopt-A-Street - We adopted a handful of streets surrounding the brewery and are committed to organizing street clean-ups to collect trash three times per year.
